How the in-widget pre-chat form collects a visitor's contact details. For a form on your own landing page, see Lead capture form. Other topics: Installation, Appearance & content.
Pre-chat form
The pre-chat form asks a visitor for contact details inside the chat — useful when you want a name or email before continuing the conversation.
Configure it in Web channel → Pre-chat form:
- Enable the form.
- Add the fields you want — text, email, phone, address, or a longer text area — each marked required or optional.
The visitor fills it in around their first message, and the answers are attached to their contact.
Pre-chat form vs lead capture form
- Pre-chat form — lives inside the widget, shown around the first message. Use it to qualify people who already opened the chat.
- Lead capture form — a form on your own page; on submit it creates a contact and pops a personalised greeting bubble. Use it for landing-page lead generation.
