Chat widget: Proactive messages

How to set up proactive messages that invite visitors into the chat. Other topics: Installation, Appearance & content, Lead capture form.

Proactive messages

Proactive messages pop a small bubble next to the (closed) chat button to invite the visitor in.

Configure them in Web channel → Proactive messages. Each rule has:

  • Trigger — after N seconds on the page, or when the URL matches a pattern (e.g. /pricing).
  • Text — the bubble copy.
  • On click — open the chat, pre-fill the input with text, or send the text as a message.
  • Cooldown — how long before the same visitor sees the rule again.

Only one proactive bubble shows per visit, and it's suppressed once the visitor is already chatting. On mobile the button pulses instead of showing a bubble, to save screen space.

Note: proactive messages are different from the post-submit greeting bubble of the lead capture form — that one is triggered by a form submit and carries the visitor's name.
